Working at a desk all day has some perks, the work is never very hard, I get to work at my own pace, and I can even surf the internet in my spare time. But there are some disadvantages too, drawbacks that have become more and more of a concern now that I've been "working" for almost two years, and that is the fact that I have become quite inactive and lazy when it comes to regular exercise.Although Jackie Chan was my hero when I was a kid, his movies now feel mostly like watching my father try and convince himself that he isn't getting older by buying large and expensive motorcycles. Or maybe it's just for the money now, I don't know... Jackie, don't you have enough?
In any case, in honor of Jackie and his oldies like Drunken Master 2, Project A and Police Story, I am going to conduct a physical exercise experiment to see how "fit" I can get on Wii Fit.
The ground rules are:
This experiment will last 2 months.
Outside of warm-up stretching, the ONLY forms of exercise I may use must be in Wii Fit.
I will not participate in any other exercises/sports beyond walking and/or activities like playing pool for the duration of the experiment.
I will design a high-protein diet, such as used for weight-training, to complement the Wii Fit regimen.
The only dietary supplement I will allow myself is protein powder, no vitamins, drugs, or other advanced supplements.
I really want to know, how far can I push the limits of Nintendo's balance board and exercise software. In pursuit of this goal, I will be focusing on the hardest exercises I can find in the software to be the "meat and potatoes" of my regimen.
Push-up and balance
Jack-knives
Lunges
Forearm balance
Jogging (in place)
Boxing
and what I feel are the hardest yoga poses for me
Since the software is able to track my weight and BMI regularly, I will use this as a base for measuring my body's change. The goal is to increase muscle and decrease fat, so if Wii Fit can in fact do this for me, my BMI should decrease.
My starting regimen will look like this:
2-day workouts, 1st day upper body, 2nd day lower body
1 rest day
repeat 2-day workout
2 rest days
start over
I had this idea back when I first bought Wii Fit, but I have been too busy sitting on my ass and playing games. I think I was playing Final Fantasy 4 DS and then some Etrian Odyssey 2, and of course, still on Brawl. But I saw this other fella start a similar experiment on another site for the sake of losing his belly before his wedding day, and the idea came back to me. Of course, I will be posting data in numbers as I progress, and I can probably get Lauren to document the ordeal with some photos too.
