Wowser, this month marks the beginning of the holiday gaming blitz, and things are starting off with the mother of all friggamackdaddy games, Mario, on Wii, Super Mario Galaxy.I am only a few hours in, but this game is the definition of polish. It's a platforming game, and I've PLAYED platforming games, but never has it felt this fun.
It's SO MUCH FUN.
Pure, unadulterated, in its most accessible form, FUN.
The controls are great. Motion controls for spin attacks and various "point at the screen" functions. It never feels forced or confusing. The graphics are jaw-dropping. Mario has never looked so... glowing. The environments look great too, but most of the time I'm concerned with how they function and not so much how they look. The game uses small "planets" as Mario's playground and it works amazingly. You run and jump on the surface of these stars and it gives the game a very refreshing feel. The stars also come in various shapes and sizes, and sometimes you go inside of them too. This allows the game to mess with the gravity in many situations, and it's probably why I feel like I've never played a platforming game like this.
Mario's back.
Fo'shizzle.
